After we were introduced to the last stage of project, we quickly arranged into groups and started brainstorming. As we were 5 we wanted to find something that all of us would enjoy making, because when you like what you're doing, you do it well and we really wanted to succeed in this project. Challenging and Competitive mood drove us to the idea of making a video of making a cake. Baking wasn't our strongest skill, but filming and video editing is something i love doing, so this idea fit perfectly the five different personalities!
We had plenty of time to make this project, so we decided to start nice and slow and figure out every detail needed to make the perfect cake! What cake? Where? How? When? these questions had to be answered on the first weeks.
We delegated the tasks and questions to all 5 of us. Keny and Larissa were looking at the recipes and different types of cakes, I was responsible for the video and camera (my passion) and Marta and Mary had to make a detailed plan for each week, for the day, to set goals and aim day by day so we stay on track, specially with the holidays coming we would get distracted and leave till the last moment and that wouldn't get us to the top :)
On an afternoon after school, Mary provided the place - her house, and Marta bought all products stated in the recipe that Keny and Larissa found!We decided to make the RAINBOW Cake, challenging and colourful - perfect for a spring mood!
As the cooking started, girls had to choose who was doing what part so it wouldn't be crowded around the table, which colours and which ingredients, while I was filming, choosing the right perspective and making the video nice and also educative in case people wanted to follow our steps and make a rainbow cake on their own!
Everything seemed to be working well until the last part in oven. To check if the cake isn't liquid inside you stick a tooth stick and if it comes out with liquid around it its not ready - thats what happened to us for 40 minutes which was 25 min more than needed! After the tooth stick came out clean we thought it was the time to take it out and flip the cake.
As we did, liquid started coming out of from the sides all thought the top layer (which apparently was around 1 cm) was cooked. When the cake leaked out the mould we had to act fast and still save the cake and NOT give up! Mary acted fast and brought cupcakes mould and after few more minutes in the oven, colourful cupcakes were done and actually very tasty!
The next stop was the editing of the video which took me 6 hours to make 6 and so minutes! We had to find the song, which then appeared to be 2 songs
Overall, i can say it was a fun experience, i got to share my tips on baking - all thought i only know how to make one cake; i got to do something that i love doing - photography and video! We've had some obstacles to overcome and as a great friendly team we managed to make delicious cupcakes out of a disaster cake! We analysed possible mistakes we could´ve done so that it didn't work and we´re willing to repeat it!
