Creativity 3 - Singing w/ Mrs. Correia!

This week was the first week we went into the new stage - Singing.
We started by walking around and looking at different postures and positions of our body as its very important while speaking and specially singing. to project our voice the loudest possible and more clear so people take us seriously we need to stand up straight, eliminate any tension in our body by first contracting and then relaxing and keeping them that way - we also did that with our shoulders to put them down and relax. The air way has to be free and open to let more air in and out while singing. Then we continued with breathing exercises with diaphragm which was very difficult for me, as i run every second day and i learned to breath from the nose and when you sing you need to breath from the mouth so it was pretty challenging at first as i felt weird and needed more time to literally learn how to breath. After some voice projecting exercises we got into singing.
The first exercise was phrases - sentences of words not logically connected together but similar in sounds as for ´A´ ´E´ ´I (ee)´ ´O´ and ´U´ sounds. The next step was the actual song, which all though I've had some singing lessons in the beginning of school year, my voice shatters very easily if i don't practice so in the beginning we were all sounding like sick shouting goats but as we went along and warmed up our vocal cords we started to get better and even in the tone :)

Here you can see the lyrics of the part of the song #1 that we sang:

People get ready
There's a train a-coming
You don't need no baggage
You just get on board
All you need is faith
To hear the diesels humming
Don't need no ticket
You just thank the Lord

People get ready
For the train to Jordan
Picking up passengers
From coast to coast
Faith is the key
Open the doors and board them
There's room for all
among the loved the most

This week there were only four of us so we couldn't do a lot as the other people would miss out on a lot of things, therefore we only did this song and then we went onto creation the song more harmonic and different, this allowed us to show our best soil as every person has different voice and abilities. Luckily in our group we had all we needed:Soprano, Mezzo - Soprano and Countertenor! Daisy, Francisca and I had higher pitch than Pedro, therefore girls were staying on the higher notes and Pedro was the base.

See for yourself:

The Second Week

Gladly on the second week it was Full House! Everyone was present and after few breathing and warming up exercises we began a new song! It was ´The Long and Winding road´by the legendary beatles! It was very challenging at first but after few times and supper from my colleague Daisy and the teacher we got on the right track and tuned up together! Our part was the difficult one as its on very high notes and we had to work a lot with our diaphragm and the cords! Middle girls had even more difficult job which was to stay a little lower than us and not automatically go onto our part but stay on their level! Boys were a little shy and you can't hear them very well on the video but their part was the lowest one and helped a lot creating the harmony and nice effects with humming! Video;

Lyrics: "The Long And Winding Road"

The long and winding road that leads to your door
Will never disappear
I've seen that road before it always leads me here
Leads me to your door

The wild and windy night that the rain washed away
Has left a pool of tears crying for the day
Why leave me standing here, let me know the way
Many times I've been alone and many times I've cried
Anyway you'll never know the many ways I've tried
And still they lead me back to the long and winding road
You left me standing here a long, long time ago
Don't leave me waiting here, lead me to you door

But still they lead me back to the long and winding road
You left me standing here a long, long time ago
Don't keep me waiting here (Don't keep me wait), lead me to you door
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

The singing section was the last in our 6 weeks of creativity! Our group was the lucky one as we managed to cover full course with Mr Harle - speaking and imagination, Mrs Burridge - animation making and Mrs. Correia -singing! This course allowed me to be more open and communicative and also, become less bossy and allow other people guide me sometimes. I struggled in some parts, and had to do things over again but with support from teachers and great dedication i managed to overcome all the obstacles on my way throughout creativity part of the course, but its not the end. The next challenge is also connected to creativity. We have 6 weeks, to prepare a project, which could be anything1 Video, song, performance, speech anything which would make us think outside of the box. At first the task seemed so broad to me i literally lost myself in my thoughts and ideas but the best advice i ever got was to start to look at the things that i like and that I'm good at - which is photography, film making and editing on the computer. This helped me narrow my flow of ideas and look at things id actually want to do.. The task is also meant to be done in a group which complicates a bit as i can't make everyone do what i want to do, therefore we decided to just brainstorm this weekend and on monday collect all the ideas and choose the best one to start planning! The quicker and more operative we work, the more time we will have to actually make, create or build the project from scratch! Im looking forward to concur this obstacle, this task and start the third and last part of the Cas Experience in school - Action!
